Dutch graphic artist

During last semester, i had see this drawing from one of the book that i borrowed but i never take notice who are the artist and just simply take note and i found something amazed from the drawing. The drawing can be see different angle. Every one of the angles conveys the people who walking up and down on staircase.
the drawing inspired me that every piece of drawing its doesn't have to look formal and we can play around different angle. According to the drawing, it also applied mathematical physic. It can make the drawing look more interesting and spectacular. There have some of example.
HERE TO GO
WHO IS THE ARTIST BEHIND OF DRAWING?
M.C Escher
Portrait

-was a Dutch graphic artist. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints. These feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, architecture, and tessellations.

Now, our lecturer briefs us a new assignment which is called tessellation. The requirement of the tessellation is applied the gestalt principle design that we had learn from last assignment. There have 6 tessellation we have to finish.

  1. Tessellation in FIGURE AND GROUND
  2. Tessellation in CLOSURE
  3. Tessellation in PROXIMITY
  4. Tessellation in SIMILARITY
  5. Tessellation in CONTINUITY
  6. Tessellation in ALIGNMENT

Tessellation is the process of creating a two-dimensional plane using the repetition of a geometric shape with no overlaps and no gaps. Tessellation frequently appeared in the art of  M.C ESCHER. So, i were refer on his work based on the requirment of the assignment.

Tessellation in FIGURE AND GROUND

m.c.escher: bull dog tessellation

Based on the drawing, we can see the idea of positive and negative forms alternately commanding equal amount of attention. This is also known as positive space or negative space interchange. There is no gaps and overlaps in the picture BUT from the drawing below, there is one of the tessellation from him.
The black color is a bird with feathery wings passes a hedgehog which is formed on the white color. There is no gaps and overlaps as well because both are formed different shape.
My tessellation in figure and ground is using liquid as motif

criteria : symmetrical, no gaps, dynamic / static, rhythm

Black color- represent liquid shape

white color- represent diamond shape

Tessellation in CLOSURE

Interlocking cat & dog tessellation pattern art by Alper
CATS AND DOGS by A.J.Alper

M.C.ECSHER

The principle of closure applies when we tend to see complete figures even when part of the information is missing.

so for my tessellation in closure, I'm using face as motif

criteria: symmetrical, dynamic, no gaps, rhythmic

Brown color- represent side face of female

white color- represent side face of male

Tessellation in PROXIMITY

Circle Limit 1 by M.C ESCHER
Based on the criteria of tessellation in Proximity, there are symmetrical, repetitive, perspective dynamic / emphasis, no gaps.
The bird is slightly become more smaller and perspective is formed, the circle shape is formed dynamic as well and the shape of bird is repeating and no gaps involved.
so I was refer the masterpieces of him, there are showed all the criteria on above and I'm using wheel as my motif.
black and white color- four edge of shape

Tessellation in SIMILARITY

M.C ESCHER: The black man looks sad while the white man is laughing.
M.C.ECSHER : Green women with layered skirts dancing past blue women dancing the other way.

The principle of similarity states that things which share visual characteristics such as shape, size, color, texture, value or orientation will be seen as belonging together.

From the both drawing on above, consider similarity because there share visual characteristics of shape and size. Thus, they will be seen as belonging together.

Flame as my motif to represent heat for my tessellation in similarity
criteria : symmetrical, contrast, no gaps, dynamic , no overlaps
black color- the shape will slight look similar to the red color which is represent flame
red color- represent flame
Tessellation in CONTINUITY

The edge of one shape will continue into the space and meet up with other shapes or the edge of the picture plane.

by Cannon-Thurston

according to the drawing, the shape is continuity and repeating. It shown the two shape is meet each other and tend to continue shape beyond their ending point.

I was using 'run' as my motif for my tessellation in Continuity.

brown and red color - represent running action

Tessellation in ALIGNMENT

alignment is lining up objects to organize and form groups.

Kangaroo and Continent by Bruce Bilney

I was choosing buffalo as my motif for the tessellation.

blue color and green color- represent buffalo

red color- creat a love shape when the both buffalo combine together

Overall for my tessellation, i found that every tessellation actually is exploring the exercises of figure and ground. When we add more details on our tessellation is look more amazed and interesting. No matter how i have learn a lot of things from this assignment and have fun to do it.

THE INNER PART of My World

Principle design had done.
Applied Principle design to your Steampunk. .O.O

??Steampunk??

    STEAM

PUNK (rock)

First thing that come to my mind when i heard Steampunk.
when I key into the computer, I found this.

From those pictures, I realize there have something are similar.
The design is more like old mechanical steam and some objects to fix with gear.
Go through the research, actually, Steampunk stories may take place in the Victorian era but include advanced machines based on 19th century technology, include the supernatural as well ,include the advanced machines, but take place later than the Victorian period.
There are probably plenty of other combinations.
Who's Know?!

Victoria Era-The Victorian era of British history was the period of Queen Victoria's reign from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901.

I'm interested in both of this pictures and they inspired me for my Steampunk.

The Left hand side

The center

The right hand side

When doing steampunk, my idea was came from the word of ''Beauty'' and ''Fantasy''. I want to create something they have private space and more indoor. I chosen for drawing indoor is represent the Inner of world and showing the beauty rather than outsider's world.Besides, give us more protection and safety. I'm using many kind of machines technique can show the world keep changing to be more better and time fly. Go through the Principle design, the staircase is emphasis and the main focus for the drawing. Staircase represent it will bring you to the better place and lead you to the future.

Principle of design
  • Emphasis- Staircase
  • Unity and Variety- the shape of object the surrounding
  • Balance-Both side are equal and same attention to viewer
  • Repetition- The design of Staircase

Cover the Truth Of You

Did you ever realize all people in this world, they're getting more fake and wearing a ''invisible mask'' on certain time in social world?

Invisible Mask is represent someone is hiding his or her real identity to other people. Mostly, Peoples will do this just because they want to avoid the danger or harmful that bring from others, and want to protect self-esteem.

However, that is just what I'm discover and observe for many years through social world but doesn't means is bad or negative.

Now, come back to the question what is MASK?

Basically, mask is a covering for all or part of the face in particular. A mask is an object normally worn on the face, typically for protection, disguise, performance or entertainment. Masks have been used since antiquity for both ceremonial and practical purposes.

The use of masks in rituals or ceremonies is a very ancient human practice across the world, although masks can also be worn for protection, in hunting, in sports, in feasts or in wars – or simply used as ornamentation. Some ceremonial or decorative masks were not designed to be worn. Although the religious use of masks has waned, masks are used sometimes in drama therapy or psychotherapy.

Mask have many types
Ritual masks
-Ritual mask occur in many country. The function of the masks may be magical or religious. So, Different Country, Different Culture or Religion and Different kind of Mask.
  • Africa
  • In West Africa, masks are used in masquerades that form part of religious ceremonies enacted to communicate with spirits and ancestors.
    =Yoruba
    =Igbo

    Yoruba Masquerade Mask, Nigeria
    Yoruba
These maskers have the power to communicate with the deceased, Yoruba people strongly believe that when they die, they enter the realm of the ancestors or spirit world from where they have influence and power on earth.

    Igbo
Igbo Mmo society that represents the spirits of deceased maidens and their mothers with masks symbolizing beauty. Common characteristics found on the masks are- finely sculptured thin and small well-placed women's features, which are accentuated by tattoos.

It would have been danced at masquerades with the masquerader concealed by raffia.

  • China
  •  In China masks are thought to have originated in ancient religious ceremonies but i was wondering that the mask of ''Bian Lian''. Bian Lian (literally "Face-Changing") is an ancient Chinese dramatic art that is part of the more general Sichuan opera. Performers wear brightly colored costumes and move to quick, dramatic music.
I was wondering the techniques how they can turn it faster as possible.
Besides, the mask have around thousand of types, different brightly colored of the mask.

  • Japan
In Japan, Noh masks are used for theatre and dance performances. Each mask represents a certain person, hero, devil, ghost, or legendary animal, depending on what the character is in the performance. I will show some of the example here.

One type of Noh mask is the hannya mask. The person who wears this mask is supposed to play a jealous and evil woman who has turned into a demon. The pointed horns and the metal eyes and teeth are used to show anger and wrath.

The fang teeth and the evil looking mouth show the fear that is portrayed in this mask.

There are some mask from different countries that i found.
After doing the research, we have group meeting and the ideas for our mask video was came out from a book and the picture is kind of like the rain is falling from the sky.

and someone taking an this kind of Umbrella ''TRADITIONAL UMBRELLA''

so, this picture and actually inspired us for our video. When we see the umbrella, let us think about the the women of Japanese with traditional makeup.

and this kind of makeup also inspired us to ''MIME''

MIME is someone who uses mime as a theatrical medium or as a performance art, involving miming, or the acting out a story through body motions, without use of speech. English, such a performer would typically be referred to as a mummer. Miming is to be distinguished from silent comedy, in which the artist is a seamless character in a film or sketch.

Both have a similar make up. As we know, mostly we using a mask for protect our face. or Mask used for hiding the identity or pretend to another identity.
Why we can't use makeup as a MASK to present it?
Make up consider to mask too cause is just using cosmetic cover our face and that show different identity of our.

Mime never ever show his true identity after he make up and perform on stage. He still hiding his own identity to audience, we never read his mind or guess who he really is. He is pretending to another person.

Video stay tune!!

Result doens't means Everything!

Hi, everyone, my name is 'DEE', or call me 'Ah Dee' but please don't call my full name because its so funny which is called COMEDY(DEE).

Anyway, this is my introduction in my comedy presentation.
When I'm doing this assignment, seriously, I'm really nervous and i can't imagine whether I'm can pass this assignment or making my classmate laugh.
Comedy as we know is bring laughter to everyone.

Comedy doesn't easy that you think, you have to choose the right topic for yourself , if not people may lose and even can't understand what you talking about and awkward =.=!!!
I never done this assignment or activity before because i think I'm not humorous person or doing jokes to make people laugh. I'm not talented in this way.
But anyway everything have to try! No Try, No Answer in the end.!

My comedy is talk about Social Comparison.
What is means by social Comparison?
Social Comparison is means people like to compare with others.
I would just share my personal experience.
My personal Experiences is my high school's friend likes to compare with me and show me his 'LC' face! and his LC face let me remind one of the celebrity from WWE.
LET SHOW TIME!!
I have learn so much from this assignment!
Now, if you have this assignment, what will you do??

Comedy for Life

GOING TO DIE...>.<
I'm going to DIEEEEZZZZZ.

HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
LAUGH!
LAUGH OUT!
Non-stop LAUGH!
LAUGH~~!!!
How to make people around you LAUGH?!

Research for Comedy.
TODAY, our lecture show a video to us, The Umbilica Brothers.
Seriously, i never heard before and is really make me Non-stop laughing when see the video.
What I'm understanding about the Comedy is making people laugh and showing their stupidity action to audience.
Comedy is any discourse or work generally intended to be humorous.
I think everyone can't live without Comedy.
Comedy just like a Jokes
Jokes bring happiness and funny to us
We're laughing.
Laughter is a beautiful expression.

''I strongly believe stand up comedy is one of the most powerful tools and venues to educate, heal, incite, and make people ponder about ideas and things beyond themselves.''-Payazaro's Blog

From my research, There have many comedian from different country. They are my favourite comedian.

Hong Kong
1.Stephen Chow Sing-Chi (Chinese: 周星馳 born 22 June 1962) is a Hong Kong actor, comedian, screenwriter, film director and producer.

I was definitely like him, they way his acting, they way his facial expression is make me laugh. No matter how many time I watch it, is still the same. He is also a director of the movies.

UNITED KINGDOM
2. Rowan Sebastian Atkinson (born 6 January 1955) is a British actor, comedian, and screenwriter. He is most famous for his work on the satirical sketch comedy show Not the Nine O'clock News, and the sitcoms Blackadder, Mr. Bean and The Thin Blue Line.

When I was young, who is Mr. bean.?? and I knew him from my daddy. My daddy like him so much, He is legend. In every movies, his facial expression is really good and can show us how stupidity of him in movies.

CANADA @ AMERICAN
3.James Eugene "Jim" Carrey (born January 17, 1962) is a Canadian and American actor, comedian, and producer. His leading roles came with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), The Mask (1994), and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995).

Those research are helping me to do my Comedy Presentation on this Friday.
So, S.T.A.  T.U.N.E.D

Principle Of Design Theory

As a training designer, the first things we have to know what is Principle of design?!

Principle of design is means the principle are concepts used to organize or arrange the structural elements of design.
Element of design can be thought of as the things that make up a painting, drawing, design or many more.
so, element of design is include Line, Shape, Size, Direction, Texture, Color, and Value.

  • LINE
  •

Every drawing, sketching, or paiting, the basically we have to draw a line first to create a shape or draw it out the things we want to. That is the Power Of Line in Design.

  • Shape

Shape is formed when the line is draw completely.

  • Size

We use line to creat or adjust the size of shape that we want.

  • Direction

When size is formed, we have to try for the direction of shape. Direction is showing the position of shape and how it look like.

  • Texure and Color

Texture and color is connected! Both could not be seperate with each others.
because when the drawing is finished, we will add on the texture to creat the smooth or rough surface but if without the color on it, we can't even see the texture clearly and there is not any illusion or not nicely. Furthermore gives the quality or feeling of a surface.

So 6 of this element is connected and It is a STEP to form or creat and nice drawing.
Of course the element is applied into the principle of design.

Paper cut Assignment for Principle design.
I have did some examples throught paper cut.
When doing the paper cut, I had learn so much things from here and get to know more and understand of it.
Doing paper cut can also let me create many kind of patterns.

So, here for you guys to refer !

From these images the objects in the images are the same yet are painted/designed differently which makes unity with variety.

UNITY AND VARIETY

Dominance is means ometimes very easy to tell if someone is trying to show dominance over another individual and more people pay more attention on it.

Dominance

Balance is means your composition of your drawing should have equal side.

Balance

Scale is means the size of shape is become increasing constantly.

Scale

Repeitition is means repeat the shape or line, in order tto emphasis.

Repetition

Aesthetic is create the patten that do not have any movement illusion.

 Aesthetic

Dynamic is when you look to the drawing,  the shapes creat a movement illusion.
