Furniture Design

Tessellations were settle.

New assignment is launched.
We have to create a new 2 Dimensional shapes that applied on the surfaces. For example, we can apply the 2 Dimensional shapes on the lamp, shirts or anything the functional object in our life.
The criteria of the assignment have to applied Gestalt Principle and using Black and White color only. Besides, we just can compose the artwork only from the natural object like feather, leaf, stone and many more.

After the group discussion, we decide to do lamp as our object. We design lamp as there have reason behind. Our lamp design have 4 surfaces. The surfaces will bring out the message and trying to express what we trying to say. The first 2 surfaces, we build up the night time and day time of the city to show the world is developing so fast and modern, the environment disasters by us and human. However, human is trying to save the environment nowadays. As a human, we are playing 2 roles, there are environment destroyer or protector. This can show human in every situation always hesitate and contradiction. Another 2 surfaces were showing the illusion of life. That means whenever what we see through our eyes, that not a real and even is fake. Once we see the object,is maybe that's just a illusion effect.

Research for the lamp's design。。。

Night time of city

the night time of city is distinguish show that the development world is so fast and from the top view you can see the land is full of buildings and is hard to find a floral or forest in that way. The effect of night time city is just showing the beauty side of the scenery but if you look more carefully, darkness can cover ugly and truth story behind how the processes to build up city.

Effect of illusion

  Shape, Light, Illusion wallpapers

Illusion as I mentioned just now, no matter what we see in front of us, There is not a real.
you will feel suffering or even confusing. Human will contradiction when the situation is ambiguous and inconsistent. Never ever believe what you see.

Lamp surface design

poke hole in a black lamp shade to make this awesome effect!!

Here are the outcome for our this assignment.
Enjoy!!!

As you can see the effect of illusion of is shown at both sided. The black color is showing the night time of the city and at the same time another side is showing day time of city.

Beauty of Night Time

Beauty of night time by Yow Jia Xin

My batik mostly is based on nature theme. When it comes to batik, the main element that I would think of is types of flora. This was the reason I have used this theme. I was trying to imagine different types of local flowers; which are hibiscus, rafflesia and ixora. In the end, I have decided to draw my own style of flower. The four flowers that I have drawn were inspired from lotus flower. It is known to be associated with purity, spiritual awakening and faithfulness. Lotus flower is considered as clean and pure contrast to the background of the dirty pond. However, the shape and colors of the flowers were not exactly the same as any flowers in reality. I drew the flowers like how I imagine with the combination also the flowers that I saw. Imagination can enhance my creativity in design. “Artist can color the sky red because they know it’s blue. Those of us who aren’t Artist must color things the way they are or people might think we are stupid.” Designer should understand that we can play around colors even though the original color of the object is not it. The colors that I put to my flowers were violet and orange color. The reason is I felt the peace and powerful when both color combined together. Based on my research, the meaning of violet is using for imagination to its fullest and also energize depression. Moreover, orange color means to increase the creativity.
For the twisted and curly roots of my flower represents that even in mud the roots can grow up towards the bright sunshine of enlightenment. As human being, we need to stay strong and keep the faith when we are having a difficult time. The roots grow upwards is representing hope. These were the reason behind when I drew this and it would be more meaningful and leaves a deeper impression to viewer. I have applied the color yellow- brownish. Brown color shown even our life is hard and full of risk, but we still can find another way to overcome it. It’s mean ‘when God closes a door, He will always leave a window’. From the phrase, no matter how hard we fight for in our life. It brings you to a better life. Other than that, there are two fishes in red color. Fish symbolized happiness and freedom. Happiness and freedom are being together. Red color can show the fish more energy. I drew the fishes swam to the top as represent the same as the curly roots which is stay strong in everything.
The background color was dark in color. It contrasts with the object. In my opinion, dark color represents the calmness. However, based on my research black color represents mystery. Life is full of mystery. We cannot predict what will happen in few second later as life is full of challenge.

Process of Batik

Step 1

The first wax is applied over the penciled-in outline of the pattern. Almost always the original cloth is white or beige.

Step 2

The cloth is dyed in the first dye bath. In this case the first dyebath is indigo blue. The area of the cloth where the wax was applied in Step 1 will remain white.

Step 3

Second application of wax is applied. In this case it is a dark brown color. A poorer quality of wax is used to cover larger areas of cloth. The darker color helps to differentiate it from the first wax applied. Any parts that are covered with this wax application will remain the indigo color.

Step 4

The cloth is dyed in the second dye bath. In this case it is a navy blue. Any areas that are not covered by wax will become dark blue.

Step 5

All the wax that has been applied thus far is removed. This is done by heating the wax and scraping it off and also by applying hot water and sponging off the remaining wax.

Step 6

Wax is applied to the area of the fabric that the artist wishes to remain the indigo blue color.

Step 7

Wax is applied to the area of the fabric that the artist wishes to remain white.

Step 8

The fabric is submerged in the final dye bath. In this case it is brown. Any areas of the cloth that have not been covered with wax will become brown.

Step 9

The finished cloth after all of the wax has been removed.

Summary for batik

Malaysian Batik is batik textile art of Malaysia, especially in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang. Mostly, leaves and flowers are most popular motifs.

The Butterfly theme is a common exception even Malaysian batik depicting humans or animals are rare because Islam norms forbid animal images as decoration.

The Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals.

From the outcome and process of batik, i learned something special and was a good experience for me. Batik is one of the national dress to every level of the general population, by having local designers to create new batik designs which reflect the 1Malaysia idea.

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

I was really enjoyed when we had a chance to experience how to make a traditional batik. I took some pictures and process when we were doing batik.

Those are the motif of batik

Let's start to work!!!

My classmate were drawing the outline by applying wax.

This was the first step before the final outcome was done.

After applied wax, we were starting to apply colors on our batik. Its were looking nice and gorgeous.

I had done with my batik.

Movies time

Movies time on Wednesday, of course student can get half price for buying a movies ticket.
why don't us having a movies with popcorn?? ^-^

It was so long i didn't watch any movies in cinema.
This time i will go to watch movies because is an ORDER.

ORDER by our lecturer again. ! That means we have to observe the movies from start to the end and we have to find out what kind of silhouette that shown and how the effect look like?
Silhouette is likeness cut from dark material and mounted on a light ground or one sketched in outline and solidly colored in.

On Wednesday 4:45pm, at SUBANG PARADE MBO CINEMA, I having a new movies with my classmate. There have many movies which is just show up in cinema.

In the end i choose the classical movies.

HERE ARE THE PREVIEW AND THE SOUNDTRACK BY ADELE OF SKYFALL

1995-2002 Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in Goldeneye (1995)

The first time I started to see James Bond's movie was the time Pierce Brosnan who acting.
The first film I watched is called 'Tomorrow Never die'. After watched I almost addicted and never ever forgot, 007 rocks, but he always has, with his girls, guns, gadgets and martinis, which could be shaken, stirred or both. Thus, every time the new film of James Bond release, i will never ever missed out because every action and the technique of shooting was too extreme and amazed. After a four year's gaps James Bond returned with Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (2006).

2006-2012 Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig as James Bond - Promotional Shot for Caisno Royale (2006)
Daniel Craig who is currently filming for the upcoming "Bond 23" film Skyfall, which is slated for release in late 2012. Of course, is showing up in cinema now. So, i decide take this chance to watch it and this is the episode 23 of James Bond. By the way,on July 27th, 2012, Daniel appeared alongside the Queen in a short film titled Happy and Glorious , the film was the highlight of the Olympic opening ceremony. It was actually the Queen's first ever acting role, a joint celebration of 007's 50th anniversary in film, and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

SKYFALL
The story line is about when Bond's latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked forcing M to relocate the agency. These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows - aided only by field agent, Eve (Naomie Harris) - following a trail to the mysterious Silva (Javier Bardem), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves. Written by JoaoBond

Go through the movies, there was many silhouette is applied in the movie and the effect outcomes were really fantastic and great!

Jellyfish Nightlights Stock Footage in James Bond Skyfall FilmWe were ecstatic to discover that Skyfall, the twenty-third James Bond film due for release late this year contains Jellyfish Nightlights, stock footage produced by Bass Visuals. As this part of scene is strongly shown the silhouette is formed here. So, Jellyfish Nightlights on the big screen once again.

Another part of scene is the movies, SKYFALL opening credit.

Honestly, the opening part is really amazing and creative. The ideas is fabulous. From the opening, there have some kind of silhouette you can find out. Besides, half way of the opening, there have many dragons coming out from the scene, that is represent one part of the scene that James Bond go to Macau Casino.

The final scene when James bond and M in Scotland. James Bond had a fight scene. There were clearly shown the silhouette.

after watching the movies, i have ideas for my silhouette. I trying to do something that similar and familiar with this method.

Before starting my silhouette, I were doing research and how to present the outcome of silhouette is more better and impress to audience and peoples.

Those are the simple silhouette. The color is just only using one tone. Its look nice but there may not impress audience to read it because is bored and is not attractive at all.

Two of pictures that i found, Its consider as a silhouette as well because there were using the grey scale and applied on it. It look more vivid and more interesting to audience.

Here are the outcome for my silhouette assignment.

the story telling is about there was lonely man that always travelling with his helicopter. One day, he is passing by the jungle and forest. When he looks down from his helicopter, the scenery is gorgeous.

Unfortunately, the helicopter is out of control and is crashing with the trees . However, the man escapes from the catastrophe by his parachute. He is staying overnight in the jungle and set up the fire for getting warm.

As the night come closer, an object is brighten and glittering from the underbrush. The brightness of the object affects his eyes contact. So, the man curious about the object. He found out the object is a big box. He picks up a branches and try to open the box.

Finally, the box is opened. There are many vapors is coming out from the box. Soon, a beautiful lady with a long hair is appeared. The lady and the man is falling in love with each other. The lady was grateful that the man found her and rescue her because she was cursed and trapped in the box over 15 years. Once the man find the box and open it, the lady will free and they will live happily after these.

Dutch graphic artist

During last semester, i had see this drawing from one of the book that i borrowed but i never take notice who are the artist and just simply take note and i found something amazed from the drawing. The drawing can be see different angle. Every one of the angles conveys the people who walking up and down on staircase.
the drawing inspired me that every piece of drawing its doesn't have to look formal and we can play around different angle. According to the drawing, it also applied mathematical physic. It can make the drawing look more interesting and spectacular. There have some of example.
HERE TO GO
WHO IS THE ARTIST BEHIND OF DRAWING?
M.C Escher
Portrait

-was a Dutch graphic artist. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints. These feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, architecture, and tessellations.

Now, our lecturer briefs us a new assignment which is called tessellation. The requirement of the tessellation is applied the gestalt principle design that we had learn from last assignment. There have 6 tessellation we have to finish.

  1. Tessellation in FIGURE AND GROUND
  2. Tessellation in CLOSURE
  3. Tessellation in PROXIMITY
  4. Tessellation in SIMILARITY
  5. Tessellation in CONTINUITY
  6. Tessellation in ALIGNMENT

Tessellation is the process of creating a two-dimensional plane using the repetition of a geometric shape with no overlaps and no gaps. Tessellation frequently appeared in the art of  M.C ESCHER. So, i were refer on his work based on the requirment of the assignment.

Tessellation in FIGURE AND GROUND

m.c.escher: bull dog tessellation

Based on the drawing, we can see the idea of positive and negative forms alternately commanding equal amount of attention. This is also known as positive space or negative space interchange. There is no gaps and overlaps in the picture BUT from the drawing below, there is one of the tessellation from him.
The black color is a bird with feathery wings passes a hedgehog which is formed on the white color. There is no gaps and overlaps as well because both are formed different shape.
My tessellation in figure and ground is using liquid as motif

criteria : symmetrical, no gaps, dynamic / static, rhythm

Black color- represent liquid shape

white color- represent diamond shape

Tessellation in CLOSURE

Interlocking cat & dog tessellation pattern art by Alper
CATS AND DOGS by A.J.Alper

M.C.ECSHER

The principle of closure applies when we tend to see complete figures even when part of the information is missing.

so for my tessellation in closure, I'm using face as motif

criteria: symmetrical, dynamic, no gaps, rhythmic

Brown color- represent side face of female

white color- represent side face of male

Tessellation in PROXIMITY

Circle Limit 1 by M.C ESCHER
Based on the criteria of tessellation in Proximity, there are symmetrical, repetitive, perspective dynamic / emphasis, no gaps.
The bird is slightly become more smaller and perspective is formed, the circle shape is formed dynamic as well and the shape of bird is repeating and no gaps involved.
so I was refer the masterpieces of him, there are showed all the criteria on above and I'm using wheel as my motif.
black and white color- four edge of shape

Tessellation in SIMILARITY

M.C ESCHER: The black man looks sad while the white man is laughing.
M.C.ECSHER : Green women with layered skirts dancing past blue women dancing the other way.

The principle of similarity states that things which share visual characteristics such as shape, size, color, texture, value or orientation will be seen as belonging together.

From the both drawing on above, consider similarity because there share visual characteristics of shape and size. Thus, they will be seen as belonging together.

Flame as my motif to represent heat for my tessellation in similarity
criteria : symmetrical, contrast, no gaps, dynamic , no overlaps
black color- the shape will slight look similar to the red color which is represent flame
red color- represent flame
Tessellation in CONTINUITY

The edge of one shape will continue into the space and meet up with other shapes or the edge of the picture plane.

by Cannon-Thurston

according to the drawing, the shape is continuity and repeating. It shown the two shape is meet each other and tend to continue shape beyond their ending point.

I was using 'run' as my motif for my tessellation in Continuity.

brown and red color - represent running action

Tessellation in ALIGNMENT

alignment is lining up objects to organize and form groups.

Kangaroo and Continent by Bruce Bilney

I was choosing buffalo as my motif for the tessellation.

blue color and green color- represent buffalo

red color- creat a love shape when the both buffalo combine together

Overall for my tessellation, i found that every tessellation actually is exploring the exercises of figure and ground. When we add more details on our tessellation is look more amazed and interesting. No matter how i have learn a lot of things from this assignment and have fun to do it.
